Ways to Teach Public Speaking to Kids
Public Speaking is one of the most essential skills that children should learn.
Whether they are speaking in front of their class or a group of audience, it is a
skill that children must learn.
This skill can help in removing their stage fears and encourages them to become
great orators. Here are a few ways on how you can teach public speaking to
your kids.
Kids enjoy activities that are relatable
Kids have a contagious enthusiasm to try new things. Choose relevant
topics that they might enjoy speaking on. Example: The need to have one
free period or why the recess should be 10 minutes longer. Such sessions can
help kids in sharing their thoughtful responses and helps in reducing their
anxiety of being unfamiliar with a topic.
Offer Examples
Once you have chosen the topic, you must review the well-formatted speech.
Show your kids videos of some famous speakers to learn and get inspired.
Introduce them to various examples and ask them to note down the various
techniques that are used by the speaker to introduce the topic. You must also
ask them to notice the visuals, pacing and non-verbal cues used by the
speaker.
Make them practice harder
Your kids will feel comfortable with more practice. Ask them to practice their
speeches in front of at least two people and take their feedback. You can tell
them how to improve their thought process and assess them through 5Cs
and 5Es. This will give them more confidence to perform.

Continue doing these steps until your kids are confident enough to conquer
their stage fears. Give them more and more topics to keep practicing and
keep getting better at it.
